Cathy Martin, CEO


Cathy Martin joined ACHD in 2020 as CEO. Cathy has worked in the nonprofit sector for more than 25 years, of which, the last 15 have been committed to health care or public health. Martin most recently served as the Vice President of Workforce Policy for the California Hospital Association (CHA). In this role, she led a strategic initiative to develop and implement solutions to address the long-term need for health care professionals in California. In addition, she was responsible for leading the Healthcare Laboratory Workforce Initiative, which is comprised of clinical laboratory experts who are developing strategic solutions to the critical laboratory workforce shortage in California. Other areas of issue management included climate resiliency, facilities and operations, and Title 22 licensing regulations.

Prior to joining CHA, Cathy was the Executive Director of the California State Rural Health Association (CSRHA), a membership organization that advocates for access to health care in California’s rural communities.

From 1992-2006, Ms. Martin was the Associate Director and Chief Financial Officer of the California Center for Civic Participation. The Center is a non-profit organization in Sacramento that provides California youth with the knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to become informed participants in the democratic process, thereby empowering them to take actions that result in policy outcomes that positively impact the health of their communities.

Ms. Martin served as the Treasurer/Secretary on the board of directors of the EDGE Coalition where she was a member from 2013-2019. The EDGE Coalition is an organization that unites business, labor, social justice, education, and workforce organizations to build a broadly shared prosperity for all Californians. Cathy was also a member of the California Community College Chancellor’s Strong Workforce Taskforce, which reimagined career technical education in California, resulting in significant investments to educate and train students in hard to fill occupations, such as health care.

Cathy resides in Woodland, CA with her husband where they raised their two children who are now away at college.
